Why did they cancel ‘Ambitions’.
The 2019 show was the brainchild of Oprah Network.
It was based on a group of black professionals navigating the world of sleazy politics and social hierarchy.
Kind of a mix of ‘The Good Wife’ and ‘The Sopranos’.
It had the makings of a good drama it had stars like Robin Givens and a cast of new and established actors whose talent was evident in the screens.
But at times it was all over the place and storylines started to get too adventurous and the love scenes did make me cringe at some points.
But it had a foundation from the pilot if they stuck to it and worked around it could have lasted for more seasons.
To me Robin Givens character was the antagonist but to me had protagonist qualities a woman in a loveless marriage who wants to be desired ,and a father whose slightly condescending of her despite her achievements.
I truly think people would have rooted for her and definitely her character could have been more evolved if there was more series as she wasn’t one-dimensional.
It was refreshing to see a a true diverse cast ,and a drama headed by an African American woman lead like ‘ How To Get Away With Murder’.
I can’t remember for some time a British tv drama with a strong black female lead.
And it showed African Americans too can be leading professionals in their respected fields and live the ‘good life’.
With more character development and backstory this drama truly would still be on air as from social media it had a fanbase.
I truly hope the series can be revived one day as I hate when shows end on cliff-hangers.
