Leading melanoma pathologist Professor Richard Scolyer has confirmed his cancer has returned and may only have months or weeks to live.
I have to admit it I was afraid to watch his interview current affair, as its not easy to watch a dying person, but I was glad I did .
When you hear the word cancer terminal you at times switch off and try to live in a cloud and disassociation , as death news scares people.
But when you get to personalise a dying person you get to inform and educate yourself and appreciate your life more.
I was moved this doctor despite dying still willing to help others by being a human guinea pig and undergoing trial and error procedures just to find a cure and hopefully slow down his tumours.
What was heart-breaking it seemed like it was working and he was through the worse, but sadly it returned the cancer more aggressive.
The thing that shook me his modesty and at the same time you see through his impassionate interview the fear in his eyes the fear of the unknown.
I would never wish that on my worst enemy.
I find his modest he doesn’t believe he should be ‘Australian Of The Year’ his legacy will be one for the history books.
I hope he keeps on enjoying the final and beautiful times with his family as those are the memories that will last to the end of time.
It’s chilling what he said enjoy your life you don’t know what’s around the corner.
I too will follow that advice once you have a bit of health make the most of it as sadly anyone can be in the position.
Cancer doesn’t discriminate.
