I am deeply saddened to hear Cllr Anton Georgiou has quit being a Brent councillor with immediate effect essentially triggering a by-election.
I never had the privilege to meet him as we didn’t serve during the same time in the council, but all I hear about him are praises and praises and the response to his resignation is very moving.
He truly is loved and most importantly respected
He responded to residents in distress regardless of party, always stood up to the bullies and stood up for the residents.
He wasn’t materialistic or corrupt everything he did in his short career was with how can Brent become better than it currently is.
I find it disturbing in a time of job uncertainty a man will quit a council job that he had a high majority in his ward ,and most people will fight tooth and nail to stay on.
But what now know the Cllr Anton is a fine example of a person who is prioritizing his mental health than money, and that is something that should be applauded and respected ,but just adds to hurt of the exceptional rare gem that Brent Council has lost and definitely will be hard to replace.
I just find it weird that this feels like the millionth councillor/staff that has quit working for Brent Council what is going on and why isn’t it being investigated.
I just remember my colleague fmr Cllr Sam Stopp someone who was a walking encyclopaedia, he had the making of a exceptional politician ,but he too decided not to seek re-election essentially ending a promising career like Cllr Anton Georgiou.
Cllr Anton at 31 years old you’ve achieved stuff that your peers cant even fathom or match up.
You should be proud and hold your head up high and know there are great things in your future.
But it’s tragic sad someone who is more qualified than most to be there and should have been aiming for MP was essentially bullied out.
Politics isn’t the be-all and end-all you are not desperate like some.
There is life after politics.
Truly another bad news story for Brent.
Will Brent ever go back to it’s glory days?
