When it comes to sports.
I think I can hold my own when it comes to general knowledge and participation.
But when it comes to my old nemesis football.
Let’s just say I was last in queue when God installed ‘’soccer magic’’.
But despite my novice in this area.
I always knew the name ‘’Pele’’.
It’s like 80s music you may not be familiar with the genre.
You still know the singer Cher.
(People that are so great that don’t need a last name.)
To me he was a groundbreaker (no pun intended), who made the game more famous and enjoyable and most importantly inclusive.
Also I think it’s rare to see a picture of the late Brazilian legend without his infectious smile.
What’s just so tragic a man who brought so much joy to the pitch ultimately underwent his most intense battle the ‘’fight for his life’’.
And the bitter irony it all played out during the ‘’World Cup’’.
For him to hold long for long as he did is just a testament to the fact he was a warrior on the pitch and off.
And I definitely know his legacy will live on through the game.
One thing about football is you may hate it or love it,but you can’t deny the ‘’power of the great game’’.
It makes stars out of people regardless of their upbringing ,has the power and network to reach out and educate.
And also most importantly it’s like a global family.
One loss is a loss for everyone.
I just hope Pele’s family take comfort from the tributes’,as speaking from experience tributes really are a savior during the mourning period.
There’s many stars in the world of ‘’football’’.
But I think we can all agree there will never be another ‘’Pele’’.
