Lets Keep It ”Real” Nigeria

Anyone who knows me knows that I’m a real housewife fan since it’s conception.

My particular favourites out of the franchise are the New York and  Atlanta versions.

I think it’s most people’s guilty tv pleasure.

Seeing how the other half live.

A life we all aspire for.

Now finally about time.

The successful franchise has arrived in Nigeria.

And here’s my true review about the premiere episode.

The housewives Toyin , Iyabo, Carolyna, Laura, Chioma and Mariam.

Their intros were the same formula.

The usual spouting of their luxurious lives and exclusive insight into their luxurious pads.

What I found humorous is  Toyin’s boyfriend mask.

He really rocked it well, and again Toyin cemented herself as the head girl.

She’s a true boss babe, who carried the torch from her mum, and is a woman who has her hand dabbled in several businesses.

(Spirit of a   true Yoruba hustler, and she makes it look  so easy being a successful entrepreneur and mum)

What I found sad was some of the housewives spouting of materialistic possessions and rich men.

I don’t think it’s what we should base our worth on how rich a man is, and I don’t want them to discredit themselves by saying those vain statements as they are all strong, beautiful  black women thriving in life and their careers, and I want them to stick to that narrative.

I  personally feel wealth to me is happiness ,as many rich people I know are wealthy but still unhappy.

But don’t get me wrong I would still like to cry in a Mercedes.

One of the housewives who has a restaurant business and wig business and is a lawyer shows me that you don’t need to make money on what you study.

You can venture in other fields.

They are all African queens in their own right  and prove a  black woman is a great woman.

Their ebony chocolate essence mixed with their work culture  is the embodiment so of a modern African woman.

On the otherhand what I found sad about watching the show was the idea  an average household in Nigeria will never experience a wealth like this in their lifetime.

And it must be painful for them to see how life  could be if there was a true  transparent distribution of wealth in Nigeria.

What I found admirable is the formation of a sort of sisterhood between all the housewives, when they met for the first time at Toyin’s event.

But from my recollection of  watching real housewives.

I won’t hold my breath for peace to reign for  long , but don’t get me wrong  it makes for entertaining viewing all the same.

All I can say Andy Cohen is a genius for tapping into the African market ,and truly showcasing the glamour of the Nigerian elite, and that we too can be posh and just as dramatic.

Also one of the housewives said a statement which I believe most people should follow’’ how you dress is how people will address’’.

It’s so true before you say anything in the job interview.

Your clothes already speak for you.

(Note to self no more ripped jeans)

But with all the entertaining viewing the show did tackle a raw subject.

When Iyabo spoke about being molested in her youth.

That really hit home for me, and I hope through the outreach of the show it will show Nigerian  and other audiences of different cultures ‘’that your past shouldn’t hinder your future’’.

Iyabo you are a brave woman and again I respect your for being a great  mum to your adopted children.

You truly have a heart of gold.

I pray for Nigeria and hope there  could be a show of real housewives of Nigeria, where it will be focused on the poor families because seeing how the other half lives should I say’’ struggle’’  will hopefully educate the government on how to help the masses it will also get people to sponsor them more.

I would love the current real housewives cast to go to  the poorer areas ,and start initiatives that would be a small contribution on their part.

I feel real Nigeria  as a tv show  would be the wake up call the country needs.

I want to see Nigeria from the eyes of the poor, as their reality is something that doesn’t need to be edited.

All I can Andy Cohen you’ve done it again you’ve produced a masterpiece and I will be watching.

Spread the love
