The documentary that again scared the crap out of me was based on the port arthur massacre in Tasmania.
The atrocity happened at the tourist resort at 28 and 29 April 1996.
And it truly is a sad part of Australian history which hopefully is never repeated.
Martin Bryant the man who went on the killing spree after eating seemingly innocently in the cafe and after that he took out his gun and as if he was in a western film went into battle but the opponents were innocent tourists and it left almost 35 people dead.
He then kidnapped a man from his car and did a hostage situation in a bed and breakfast then set it on fire and then he was apprehended.
Sadly the captive and owners of b&b were dead.
Even the police werent mentally prepared for what they saw that day, even the medics said the aftermath had a emotional impact on them.
No matter how you think your prepared your never truly prepared for what they bring through the door.
The motive in the slaying aint clear because the killer’s mind is too complex for even a experienced profiler to dissect.
But one of the motive is for the b&b owners death he perceived they cheated his father to buy the business leading to his suicide.
But if so why the other innocent bystanders and he also inherited a substantial amount of money before the rampage and was living like a recluse.
I truly feel there should be more safeguarding with vulnerable people in society as a whole.
I feel at times because people are perceived troubled family or society tends to wash their hands of them and say in a way fend for yourself.
That shouldn’t be the case mental health in people varies and when there’s no supervision the person can make their own rules and not play by the general rule book.
That day there was numerous victims but was the killer also a victim too to a neglectful society.
Time heals but the nightmares never fade i hope the victims families grew stronger despite the tragedy.
What i find chilling is massacres like this are on the rise in our modern climate.
