Let me tell you a secret. Its not the councils fault you stay in the dark when you refuse to switch the light on.
Ok let me make myself clear since the pandemic some councils in UK and organisations have scapegoated on having interactive events with residents face to face die to saying they are complying with covid restrictions.
Which is totally convenient when there’s rising council taxes and bills and lack of social care and they want to dodge the awkward questions that will leave them tongue tied. I think personally we too make their lives easier as residents too admit they are too lazy to go to meetings and don’t think they will make any influence in change.
They may be civil servants they are public servants and they should be held to account and going to your local council meeting is definitely a way to be kept in the loop of local politics as i always say local politics is just as important as nationwide as they all have direct impact in your everyday life.
What pains me we complain about the system but we dont want to change the system by contributing or simply attending a meeting.
We cant have it both ways.
And truly what does it cost a day of your life to attend a local meeting trust me you will be surprised how entertaining it is more gossip than your local hairdressers and always a healthy supply of hobnobs on display.
What i will say dont make knowing your elected officials as distant relatives that you only see in elections by going to meetings you can treat it like a trial separation if your not happy with their performance you seek divorce in the next local elections.Stay informed dont be caught aware by a pesky letter in the letterbox announcing changes.
