Nigerians Are At it Again

Adejoké Bakare is the modern woman who is the the proud  founder and Head Chef of Chishuru, a modern West African restaurant in London’s Fitzrovia. Celebrated for her brave  modern  innovative flavours,

She made history last year being the first woman in Britain to earn a Michelin star second worldwide.

For anyone who doesn’t know its like the Oscars of chefs.

Where have I been living I just recently found that out.

But it wasn’t hyped up on social media or TV as it should have been.

To me it’s an accomplishment well deserved but why did it take so long for a black woman to earn this in the UK.

The black community have a lot to offer black people we are all about food and hosting and each of our communities have something to offer. Ethiopian  spicy stews and injera, Nigeria jollof rice, Ghana peanut stew.Jamaica oxtail that just falls of the bone the list goes on .

But are we giving platform enough in the UK to showcase our culinary delights I’m not talking about one-off times at festivals or carnival.

I mean giving genuine investment where we can have businesses like Adejoke to advertise our culture.

If we so I believe Adejoke would have been one of many black that earned a Michelin star and it would have been more incentive for black  British to be more restaurant owners.

Well done Adejoke Bakare I wish you more success an save me a plate I definitely will be visiting.

Her story is a success but also a insult to the black community in Britain.
