Truly sends shiver down my spine the case of Joyce Vincent who lay dead in her council flat for more than 3 years and no-one batted an eyelid it was when she was in rent arrears her body was finally discovered with chillingly the tv still on and heating on.
It happened the grim discovery 25th January 2006 and sadly her skeletal remains had to be identified through dental records.
Imagine 20 years ago this tragedy still shames a nation.
How could this have happened.
Apparently Joyce cut contact with her family and friends and suddenly quit her job.
From all appearances it was as if she had a breakdown and wanted to exile herself from society.
What baffles me did the neighbours not smell anything and didn’t her post build up and also her being a victim of domestic violence why didn’t she have a social worker who was keeping up to date with her.
Another fault with social services to me.
And I don’t care if someone cuts contact wouldn’t someone from her loved ones still have pursued finding out her whereabouts and checking on her well being.
I don’t know whose to blame but its a tragedy that could have been avoided if someone simply checked.
I always say we live in of the most populated cities in the world but why is loneliness still a epidemic affecting most Londoners, and because of that and cuts in social services I feel sadly cases like this will be a thing of the norm.
