British politics truly is getting nasty.
I’m really disheartened about the cruel mockery that former PM Rishi Sunak is still being subjected to despite his devastating and humbling loss.
Where’s the ‘don’t kick someone when their already down’.
And what I find sad is that the people mocking him are fellow ethnics from different parties.
They don’t know the joke is on you do you think you’d have a chance to be a PM either.
Why Rishi should hold his head eye.
He’s accomplished things that people cant get in their lifetime.
He may have his faults but honestly who is a perfect?
We are all capable of mistakes and learning from them.
I believe his race and wealth worked against him and he paid a heavy price on the polls.
Why I can relate to his situation is when I won councillor at 19 years old being effectively the youngest in Britain .
No-one in Labour Party acknowledged my win.
Which I now know being older and wiser was plain old-fashioned subtle racism.
I remember even one of my closest colleagues a former councillor said she’s ashamed to work for Labour Party due to the way they treated me.
I remember being in a meeting a sierra leone friend Siya told me she noticed that Labour Party didn’t promote me and she too believed it was because I was african, and she too said i should take offence to that snub.
And believe me I was fuming as I couldn’t avoid the truth that my own previous party made me a ridicule.
And this is what played a part in my decision not to seek re-election.
What Labour party don’t know the ethnic youth in Britain are more smarter than the think .
They take notice of their appointments and handling of black politicians.
And I remember when I was judging a talent show in Harlesden Hall after giving my best Simon Cowell impression, a couple of Jamaican girls and west African girls hugged me and said they are proud of me and know they are capable of greatness too.
And that means more than money.
To have changed even one person outlook on their potential is everything.
One thing about the Asian community in Britain they are one of the most hard-working demographics.
They work as cashiers, restaurant workers ,bankers ,doctors ,scientists and bus drivers e.g
Basically contributing to the smooth running of Britain.
Why would they be good for that, but not good enough to be in charge of the country.
Is there a double standard.
When Rishi was subjected to racist abuse during the campaign trail all he was worried about was how his daughters will feel reading that.
That literally melted my heart.
What I would say Rishi hold your head high.
You tried your best.
You did a passionate speech as opposition leader and you were the first ethnic PM in Britain.
And a large majority of the great British public and media houses don’t agree with the vile treatment you had to face.
And people should take tips from you on how you distributed the ministerial jobs which was fair especially to respected black politicians like Kemi Badenoch and James Cleverly.
I appreciate a leader who isn’t blindly prejudice and is committed to doing the best for all people in their party.
Rishi you’ve handled yourself with grace and dignity even when dealing with ignorant haters.
Are we now going to encourage the decline of potential BAME politicians aspiring for higher office in Britain , even when their British citizens?
