The actor Brendan Fraser had a huge effect on my pre-teen to teen years.
Through The Mummy franchise it encouraged my fascination for the Egyptian culture from the pyramids to the food to the make-up (to me they created the eye-liner trend and slayed it)
I too along with his legion of fans wandered. Where did he disappear to?
He virtually stopped appearing in films, and essentially went under the radar.
It was refreshing to get the true scoop that he was allegedly sexually assaulted by a Hollywood big-wig ,and after reporting the incident.
He was essentially blacklisted in Hollywood ,and betrayed by the businesses he essentially grew up in.
Betrayal and essentially isolation like this can have a devastating impact on a person’s mental health which in most cases can be irreversible, but I’ ‘m so happy to see he’s coming out the other side.
To me his situation set a dangerous precedent for reporting abuse in a corporation.
Essentially you should be afraid to report it if so, you’d be cancelled ,and that’s what happened to Brendan Fraser.
His recent interview that made me well up was getting the questions from fans stating their happiness that he’s back, and he was one of the most authentic actors.
And to his credit he really immersed himself in his roles, check out the mummy films he did most of his own stunts, and his new film ‘’The Whale’’ he underwent a drastic body transformation.
I think it’s very admirable a man that can express a form of vulnerability in the world of Hollywood where everything is rehearsed and pristine. His genuine expression his gratitude for a second shot, and recalling his abuse made us the fans know everyone has a story, and you don’t know what a person is truly going through except they divulge.
His situation shows that same-sex abuse isn’t immune to men, and research shows men are more prone to suicide than their female counterparts.
It’s truly brave for any person especially a man to recount their own experience regarding sexual abuse, it raises awareness, and makes more men know they shouldn’t be ashamed.
I hope the rumors for a possible Oscar for his new film isn’t ‘’fake news’ ’,as from the preview clips I can tell it’s him at his finest.
I just hope Hollywood truly welcomes him back with open arms, as any more neglect to me can truly be the last straw for a man whose still coping with his previous trauma.
